The basic scoop:

Other FAQ:

Do I need to bring a partner?
No, more people come solo than paired up. Either is fine.
What should I wear?
We're casual. But feel free to dress up if you like!
No fragrances, please.
We request that you not wear fragrances or products with fragrance, as some people are sensitive, plus lots of us just don't like it.
What kind of music do you play?
We play great music for dancing! We don't play much standard "dance music," constructed to fit a certain dance definition, style, speed, etc. We play songs with real heart & soul that happen to be great for dancing. About half of our songs are for waltzing (at all different speeds), and half for other kinds of dancing: swing, blues, cha-cha, tango, nightclub 2-step, salsa, etc. A lot of the songs we love bend the categories a bit; you could do several different dances to 'em, take your pick. We love great music that makes you want to dance, and we're not much concerned with strictly fitting each tune into some dance definition. For us, dance follows music, not the other way around. After about 9:30 the music gets more intimate, with more music for blues, slow dance, fusion, & alternative tango.
What all goes on at your dances? What's the program?
Our dances are all dancing. We figure you come to dance, not watch, so no student performances or instructor demos, no group dances you have to wait out, generally no birthday dances etc. We usually have brief announcements about upcoming events, mid-evening.
Right, but what's it like? How does it feel?
Our dances reflect our philosophy: dance with kindness, generosity & respect. We believe that how the dancing feels is important; how it looks isn't. See Creative collaboration for some related ideas & musings.
Who comes to your dances?
Because we've offered a reliable weekly dance for so long (every week since the beginning of 1999), we've developed a deep loyal following of dancers, many of whom have been coming for years. That translates to lots of experienced dancers, but we're very friendly to beginners too.
How do I sign up for classes?
You don't. Our classes are pay-as-you-go, drop in anytime; no need to sign up or pay in advance, and you never miss a class you've paid for. We have beginning and intermediate classes every Monday, and we change topics/dances taught every 4-8 weeks, depending on interest levels. Take as many or as few in a series as you like. We also a more in-depth Lab (alternating teaching sessions with practica sessions) 1st & 3rd Sunday afternoons. You can find info on current classes on the home page.
Do I have to rotate partners in your classes?
No. We invite students to rotate frequently in classes, but feel free to stay with your partner if you want. We highly recommend rotating, particularly if you and your partner are both beginners, so you get to feel what it's like to dance with more experienced partners.
Do you send out dance emails?
